Feasibility studies

A feasibility study is a tool to assess the economic viability of a project. In other words, the feasibility study aims to analyze the economic, organizational and technical feasibility of the project. . It is a decision-making tool needed to consider what should happen to the project.

Two parts are examined

Technical project

At this stage the following points will be developed:

  • Determination of exploitable reserves
  • Determination of the extraction and treatment capacity
  • Mining method
  • Optimal choice of access (tracks, gallery, Travers benches, wells)
  • Quantification of preparatory works and infrastructures
  • Workforce estimate
  • Determination of mining equipment requirements
  • Determination of utilities
  • Determination of the process etc.

Financial analysis

This phase aims to determine the financial result, and other financial criteria (IRR) of the project, without having evaluated:

  •  projected investments
  • The Expendables
  • Staff costs
  • Bank loan and the resulting financial expenses


Often this phase is completed by a sensitivity study to take into account variations of certain parameters (investment cost, sales price, exploitable reserves, etc.). Several scenarios are examined
